David Wheeler and his son Silas both served in the War of 1812.
David is listed in
both New York State and National Archives as having service in Col.
Anthony Sprague’s NY 55th regiment, he is listed as Sergeant
David Wheeler in service from September 9th to September 23rd, 1812,
under Capt. Timothy Cornwallis, serving at Fort Tompkins, now Sackets
Harbor.
A land deed from Jefferson County, New York, dated august 3, 1813,
states David Wheeler bought approximately 100 acres of land from Samuel
Wardwell for $300 in the Wardwell Settlement. His sons, Silas, David
Jr., and Alanson, also owned property in or near Wardwell Settlement.
1820 census records indicate David Wheeler and
his son Silas were residents
of Ellisburg
Township, Jefferson County, New York.
1840 census records indicate
David Wheeler and his son David Jr. were residents of Ellisburg
Township, Jefferson County, New York.
In 1853, at age 79, he followed his son, Alanson, to Auburn Township,
Fond Du Lac, County, Wisconsin. David and his wife, Nabbie Wheeler sold
their property at Wardwell Settlement , to Nathan Holley on May 9, for
$2,800.
In 1854, a land deed filed in Fond Du Lac County, states David Wheeler
purchased 40 acres on January 3rd, from S.L. Smith for $100. This
property was located next to his son’s, Alanson, property.
David and his second wife Nabbie are buried in the Rusco Cemetery in West Bend, Washington
County, Wisconsin.
